Vanessa Sanchez Success Story
Learn how Vanessa worked hard even through remote video training during the quarantine, to pass the Challenging State Police Test!
Vanessa Sanchez Sept 2020
I began coming to Excel Fitness when I decided that I needed to become more serious with my health and fitness, in order to achieve my goals. I had recently applied to become a State Trooper and needed to pass a rigorous physical test. The test consists of a 1 ½ mile run, which must be completed in 15 mins 38 secs, a 300-meter run to completed in 79 seconds, 25 sit-ups in one minute and 11 push-ups in one minute. I was so out of shape that I couldn’t even do one push -up!
My mother had been training with Jeff for a while and she was always telling me how amazing this trainer was and how he focused on precision and form to increase a client’s overall strength. My mother is a very active person who has used a personal trainer for more than 20 years, so she knows about effective training! I was really impressed and decided to give Jeff a try.
I only had 3 months to get in shape before the test. I told Jeff about the criteria for the test and he worked me hard right from the start. Each time that I trained with him, there was a different workout than the previous time, and it was also more challenging! I progressed in my goals and could feel myself getting stronger. My push-ups and sit-ups improved, and my running times got faster. When COVID forced the gym to close, we continued training remotely over FaceTime or Zoom.
I was determined to succeed, and Jeff pushed me every step of the way. Once the gym reopened, we resumed in person training. The week before my test, Jeff and I did a practice of all the requirements and I was able to successfully complete them within the allotted times. I was thrilled. I rested for a couple of days before the test date, and when it arrived, I felt excited and confident.
There were 6 of us scheduled to test and as we lined up to begin, I heard Jeff’s voice in my head, saying “Give it your all and don’t quit until after you’ve completed your times. You can pass out after!” That’s what I did (not the passing out part)- I kept going and beat all the minimum requirements, achieving my best times ever. I left feeling incredibly proud.
I’m so thankful to Jeff and to Excel Fitness. Because of well thought out training regimens, and all-around intense workouts, I was able to achieve my goals and am on my way to my dream job. I always felt challenged and motivated. Now, I still train with Jeff twice a week so I can stay fit and healthy.
Thank you for everything Jeff!!
From Jeff:
Vanessa was referred to me from her mother, whom was seeing great results and a pleasure to work with. I was happy when Alcira referred her. Vanessa explained to me the tests that she needed to pass and having experience working with fire fighters and police prepare for their tests, I felt confident we would get her to pass. With the proper amount of effort and given that Vanessa had over 3 months to prepare, I knew she could achieve her goals. We met, discussed her current program and what she needed help with the most. We did her baseline tests to see exactly where she was in the process. I was really concerned with the 300 M run; it was the second test she had to perform and if she didn’t pass, she didn’t move on to the next test. Each workout we began with a dry run of her tests, sit ups, 300m run and pushups. She was doing her long run at the track on her own. Each week she got better and worked harder. She worked hard during the Covid shutdown continuing video training twice a week. Once Excel reopened, she was close to passing all of her tests which was a testament to her commitment and her hard work. I was so happy when she texted me her results! She was so excited and deservedly so. Vanessa continues to train with us and is still getting stronger and improving. ... See more
