Motivation for Total Wellness:
About 10 years ago I committed to routine exercise as means to combat aging, weight gain, motivate me to quit smoking and improve my overall health. I started paying more attention to food and became obsessed with the calories in/calories out, low fat and high protein diet, and as a result swapped my regular cola for diet, swapped full fat for low fat or fat-free everywhere. However, I soon came to realize that calories in/out was hardly the tip of the iceberg when it came to 1) what it truly means to be healthy and 2) what is known about food and real nutrients in the body versus the diet culture and the Standard American Diet that surrounds us. I now see just how out of touch the food industry and society as a result has become and how poorly our mainstream food supply supports basic body physiology and completely works against it! We are sold so many conflicting stories about how and what we should be eating that I want to help people navigate through the wild world of food so they can make more informed choices as well as address the many other factors in a person’s life that complete the picture of good health.
Working out, toning in the gym, bicycling, reading, whole foods, learning to cook, conducting wellness workshops and speaking engagements and working with youth around self-esteem and self-awareness.
I am a Masters Level Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Certified Health Coach (CHC) with over 12 years of behavioral health experience, several of which included direct work in behavior change with individuals, groups and families. Most recently I am a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I studied over 100 dietary theories and solidified a holistic perspective of wellness. I am extremely passionate about inspiring hope and confidence in individuals to achieve their own optimal state of wellness through education and support, creating a ripple effect on the world.
